The Magnificent Mayon (A Short Yet Memorable Encounter) ~ ALBAY

Our trip to Bicol Region does not actually include Mayon Volcano sighting. In fact, it was an out of plan landing in Legazpi Airport. We are supposed to land in Naga Airport on the morning of September 10, 2011 but Cebu Pacific informed us that the trip has been cancelled due to "aircraft situation". We were offered either to reschedule our trip or transfer to another trip bound for Legazpi. Not to kill the momentum of excitement, especially for some of us who will experience riding a plane for the first time, and since we know everything is set (including our leaves of absence for work), we chose the latter. Although there are some adjustments in our itinerary,  we can not do anything but to make the most of it. And so here it goes..

Even before landing to Legazpi Airport, Mt. Mayon already gave us a promise of  its majestic beauty that added to our excitement to see it at close.

and we're getting closer..

Chocolate Hills in Legazpi? This great view taken from cabin window somehow looks like the Chocolate Hills in Bohol. These little hills were amazingly landscaped on the foot of the Mt. Mayon. Maybe they were formed from the mountains's eruptions.

And we finally landed at around 5:50 am. The plane took us 50 minutes from Manila to Legazpi Airport. Landing at the port gave us great view of the Mayon especially that clouds are not too thick during morning time.

We were all fascinated by the Mayon's magnificent beauty. So we did not waste any single moment to enjoy the enthralling view and take photos with the Mayon on our background for souvenir and of course documentation for this blog..=c

As we leave the landing area and while waiting for our baggages, the clouds gently wrapped the base of the Mayon. Good thing we had good pictures already.

Upon exiting, we were welcomed by this signage. "MAOGMANG PAG-ABOT SA LEGAZPI CITY, DAGOS PO KAMO!" This Means: Maligayang Pagdating sa Legazpi City. TULOY PO KAYO!

We immediately looked for the vehicle provided by Cebu Pacific that will transport us to our first stop - CamSur Watersports Complex (or CWC) in Naga City which is 2 hours drive from Legazpi Airport.

While on our way, we just can't help but talk about our experience seeing the Mayon - that the cancelled trip news and transfer or change of flight were all paid off. My friend Lady recalled our gradeschool days where we used draw the Mayon in our pad or bond paper using a ruler to make it perfect. Because we were told that Mayon has the "perfect cone" shape. And we all agreed with her. And completing that conversation are the happy faces because that "perfect cone" we used to draw appeared just before our eyes.

Mr. Dah, our driver is a very cool guy. He was very happy with our experience seeing the Mayon. He asked us if we want to stop in one place along our way where we can see the Mayon even closer and take some more photos. Of course we all agreed with him. Here are the photos:

This is one of my favorite shots. The sky is clear with few clouds surrounding the Mayon.

Mt. Mayon is one of the most active and famous volcanoes in the World. It is no wonder that it was once included in the TOP 100 entries that vied for a slot in the NEW SEVEN WONDERS OF NATURE.   Unfortunately, it did not get enough votes to enter the top 28 semi-finalists.

After some camworing, we requested Mr. Dah to take us to one of the stores in Albay where we can buy Bicol's Specialty - the Bicol Express and Pinangat to fill our tummy. And then we head on our way to Naga City.

Date of experience: September 10, 2011
